Time-course foliar dynamics of poplar short rotation plantations under Mediterranean conditions. Responses to different water scenarios

چکیده

Poplar (Populus spp.) Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) systems are characterized by high short-term biomass productivity and play a key role in promoting employment rural areas as well supplying environmental benefits. However, the context of climate change with expected reduced water availability Mediterranean area, these plantations may be seriously limited. In this regard, aim work is to analyse monthly dynamic responses relevant variables at foliar level throughout entire first rotation poplar short plantation under two scenarios: optimal scenario (with irrigation field capacity (FC)) versus restrictive 50% FC irrigation). This data came from 590 trees highly productive genotype ‘AF2‘. LAImax values 2.39, 7.47 9.34 were found for three-year cycle, pointing significantly lower after establishment year scenario. SLA mean displayed downward trend, 12.25 m2 kg−1, 10.82 kg−1 10.47 years 1, 2 3 respectively, no significant differences being observed between scenarios. NPK concentrations decreased over rotation, Additionally, selected genotype, ‘AF2’, tight stomatal control conditions stress, maintaining photosynthetic levels. The study can potentially used better understand behavior which most affect production face change.

Harvesting Short-Rotation Poplar Plantations for Biomass Production

Nacrtak In Italy, short rotation forest has become very popular in recent years, with over 4,000 hectares already planted – almost exclusively with clone poplar. The study models the performance of modified forage harvesters on a range of short-rotation poplar plantations, identifies technical obstacles to the deployment of these machines and suggests solutions that may expand the capability of...

A Single-pass Reduced Tillage Technique for the Establishment of Short-Rotation Poplar (Populus spp.) Plantations

In Italy, there has been a significant increase of the areas cultivated with short-rotation forestry (SRF) poplar (Populus spp.) for the production of lignocellulosic biomass. This species has been generally introduced on soils managed with conventional farming practices that led to the formation of a hardpan. This constitutes a serious obstacle for root development and water availability, whic...

Water use of a multigenotype poplar short‐rotation coppice from tree to stand scale

Short-rotation coppice (SRC) has great potential for supplying biomass-based heat and energy, but little is known about SRC's ecological footprint, particularly its impact on the water cycle. To this end, we quantified the water use of a commercial scale poplar (Populus) SRC plantation in East Flanders (Belgium) at tree and stand level, focusing primarily on the transpiration component. First, ...

Physiological responses of sunflower to water stress under different levels of zinc fertilizer

To investigate the physiological responses of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L., Alstar hybrid) to water stress under different levels of zinc fertilizer, an experiment was conducted at the Isfahan Agricultural Research Center, Isfahan, Iran, during 2008 and 2009 using a randomized complete block design within a split plot layout with three replications. Five irrigation treatments used in thi...

Physiological responses of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) to foliar application of boron and zinc under drought stress conditions

Micronutriens deficiency is prevalent in case of drought stress conditions, so complementary boron and zinc nutrition are important for crops to overcome drought stress. This study evaluated the effect of zinc and boron foliar application on physiological traits of sesame under different irrigation levels. The experiment was conducted as a split plot in a randomized complete block design with t...
